Fire Protection and Compliance Assistant

About the role

Leeds Federated Housing Association is seeking a Fire Protection and Compliance Assistant to help keep its homes and communal areas safe and compliant. The role involves regular site visits across Leeds, conducting fire safety checks, testing equipment and interacting with residents and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine fire safety inspections in communal areas, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, fire doors and signage.
• Test and maintain firefighting equipment and report any defects for repair or replacement.
• Arrange appointments and communicate with customers to deliver building‑safety activities.
• Perform Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) in offices and properties.
• Support additional compliance work such as lift inspections, asbestos surveys and building‑safety visits.
• Maintain accurate digital records of inspections, tests and actions taken.
• Work safely at all times, using appropriate PPE and following risk assessments.

Required profile

• Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot safety issues.
• Organised with the ability to manage your own workload.
• Comfortable using mobile or digital systems to record information.
• Practical problem‑solving approach and commitment to safety procedures.
• Full UK driving licence for travel between properties.
