Fitter – Mechanical Maintenance at Divethill Quarry

About the role

Breedon Group is seeking a skilled Fitter to join the maintenance team at its Divethill Quarry in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The role focuses on keeping plant equipment reliable through preventive and corrective work, supporting both maintenance and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventive and reactive mechanical maintenance on production plant and equipment.
• Remove, repair and re‑assemble conveyors, rollers and side skirts.
• Maintain pumps, motors, pulleys, bearings, shafts, gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Perform welding and fabrication tasks as required.
• Use pulling and lifting equipment safely.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and execute repairs.
• Support health, safety and environmental standards on all activities.

Required profile

• Completed a recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship.
• Experience working on heavy plant – fixed or mobile – in a construction or quarry environment.
• Good understanding of HSE impacts related to mechanical work.
