Food Skills Tutor – Vocational Trainer at HMP Belmarsh

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Food Skills Tutor to deliver practical catering training to learners at HMP Belmarsh. This prison‑based position involves designing and delivering hands‑on workshops that help inmates develop industry‑relevant food preparation, safety and service skills, supporting their rehabilitation and future employability.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, practical catering lessons to small groups of learners.
• Develop learners’ food safety knowledge, professional kitchen techniques and workplace behaviours.
• Tailor sessions to individual needs and align them with recognised qualification standards.
• Assess progress, provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate attendance and assessment records.
• Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of teaching materials.
• Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity and health‑and‑safety requirements.
• Collaborate with prison staff and education colleagues to ensure smooth programme delivery.

Required profile

• Level 2 Catering qualification.
• Significant industry experience in catering or hospitality.
• Proven experience delivering vocational or catering training.
• Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal abilities.
