Forest Craftsperson

About the role

You will support the beat forester in shaping and managing the forest land, carrying out a range of practical operations and inspections. You will also assist the Wild Neroche Project Officer with hands‑on interventions to restore natural processes, while championing a strong health and safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Perform practical tasks for the Wild Neroche project, including hand planting, tree guard installation and fence repair.
• Work with ancient and veteran trees, carrying out high pruning, cutting back and felling.
• Manage tree safety through inspections, signage, fencing and remedial work, using LANTRA Basic Tree Survey certification.
• Maintain estate vegetation, roads, rides, rights of way and permissive paths, including gate and barrier repairs.
• Deliver work programmes efficiently, conduct risk assessments and adhere to FISA health‑and‑safety standards.
• Undertake surveys for timber marketing, stocking density, ecological and recreation trail inspections.
• Collect operational data accurately and keep up‑to‑date records.
• Support projects focused on wild areas and occasional woodland creation activities.

Required profile

• Ability to carry out practical forest tasks such as planting, pruning, felling and fence maintenance.
• Experience or willingness to work with ancient and veteran trees.
• Commitment to high health‑and‑safety standards and ability to conduct risk assessments.
• Capability to operate and maintain tools and equipment safely.
• Willingness to liaise with colleagues, stakeholders and contractors to deliver efficient work programmes.

Required skills
