Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

The Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team at Databricks works with its most strategic customers to design, build and productionise first-of-their-kind data and AI solutions. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will embed directly with these customers to design and deliver custom fullstack applications and solutions on the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform and other common software stacks, owning the architecture and leading design decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture and design decisions so solutions are secure, scalable and aligned with customer needs and Databricks best practices.
• Design and develop applications covering backend, frontend and integrations, bringing data and AI to life for enterprise users.
• Deliver production-grade systems from data ingestion and transformation through ML/AI model integration to user-facing applications.
• Embed with customer teams, engaging stakeholders from technical ICs to executives.
• Partner with Sales, Product and Field Engineering to ensure a seamless customer journey from pre-sales through post-deployment.
• Contribute accelerators, frameworks and best practices that scale across accounts and influence the product roadmap.

Required profile

• Strong background in software engineering with experience across backend, frontend and systems integration.
• Proven track record of delivering technical solutions in enterprise environments with measurable outcomes.
• Ability to engage with stakeholders from engineers to C-level executives and explain complex concepts clearly.
• Curiosity, adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and domains.
• Ability and interest to travel up to 50% as needed to client sites.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Java/Scala, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks.
• Experience designing, building and deploying production applications combining data pipelines, ML/AI models and user interfaces.
• Familiarity with AI APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini, and with AI code generation tools.
