Forward Deployed Engineering Manager

About the role

Databricks is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) Manager in London, working in a hybrid setting. You will lead a delivery team of 8+ Individual Contributors who build and productionize solutions for customers' data and AI challenges using the Databricks platform. The role balances high-quality technical execution, professional services business outcomes and talent development.

Key responsibilities

• Drive delivery success at team and account level, with impact measured by bookings, revenue, margin, CSAT and DBU consumption
• Manage an elite engineering team of 8+ ICs, aligning technical and scoping work with Engagement Managers and clients
• Build team capability internally and deliver on account execution externally; set standards for Greenhouse scorecards and interview calibrations
• Connect daily work to customer outcomes, share customer wins and remove blockers quickly, using simple automation or AI assistants
• Run regular standups, project reviews and retrospectives, and coach ICs on secure, scalable deployment patterns, governance and production readiness
• Ensure the team has 2-4 protected hours per week for technical learning and experimentation

Required profile

• 8+ years of total technical experience, including 2+ years managing, leading or mentoring technical teams in data engineering, data platforms, software engineering or AI/ML
• Proven ability to manage technical project delivery, timelines, scoping, conflict resolution and executive customer relationships
• Databricks certification required (or path to completion)

Required skills

• Strong technical background covering distributed computing (Apache Spark), Python/Scala, cloud ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP), CI/CD and MLOps/GenAI frameworks
• Ability to review delivery plans and architectures and coach ICs on secure, scalable deployment patterns
