Founding Engineer – Early‑Stage Tech Startup

About the role

We are seeking an exceptional engineer to join an early‑stage technology company as a founding member of the engineering team. You will work directly with the founders to shape a category‑defining product, enjoying full technical ownership and autonomy.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and build core technology from first principles across the full stack.
• Make critical decisions on infrastructure, backend systems, and product development.
• Design scalable, reliable, high‑performance software solutions.
• Rapidly prototype, test ideas, and iterate toward production‑ready systems.
• Establish engineering standards, tooling, and best‑practice development processes.
• Optimize systems for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Collaborate with founders to define product strategy and technical direction.

Required profile

• First‑class degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or a highly technical discipline from a leading UK university.
• Proven ability to independently deliver complex technical projects.
• Strong grasp of algorithms, data structures, systems design and software architecture.
• High intellectual curiosity and rapid learning of unfamiliar technologies.
• Comfort operating in uncertainty and taking full ownership of outcomes.
