FPGA Electronics Engineer – Defence (Cambridge)

About the role

We are supporting a defence contractor in Cambridge that tackles some of the most demanding engineering challenges for UK national security. The position is for an FPGA Electronics Engineer who will translate complex concepts into working hardware solutions that directly impact real‑world defence capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Capture system requirements and develop FPGA architectures from first principles.
• Design, implement and verify VHDL/Verilog code using modern FPGA toolchains.
• Integrate FPGA designs with DSP, embedded C/C++ software and communications subsystems.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers and designers to move projects from concept through prototype to delivery.
• Perform testing, validation and documentation to meet security and performance standards.

Required profile

• Strong foundation in digital design and hands‑on experience with VHDL or Verilog.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Eligibility for UK Security Clearance; no visa sponsorship available.
• Interest in defence, cyber‑threat mitigation and emerging technologies.

Required skills

• VHDL or Verilog
• FPGA development toolchains
• MATLAB/Simulink (advantageous)
• Embedded C/C++ programming
• DSP, modelling, and communications system knowledge
• Experience with SDR, radar or related signal‑processing hardware (preferred)
