Fractional DevOps Engineer

About the role

Our client, an early‑stage fintech developing a highly secure financial software platform, is looking for a Fractional DevOps Engineer to work 1–2 days a week in London. You will lead the design and operation of their Google Cloud Platform environment, ensuring secure, reliable and scalable delivery of the product.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain a secure, scalable GCP environment with separate development, staging and production spaces.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and keep production infrastructure reproducible and documented.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, security scanning, controlled deployment and rollback, preferably using GitHub Actions.
• Apply strong IAM, networking, service‑account, secrets‑management, encryption and least‑privilege controls.
• Set up centralised logging, monitoring, alerting and incident‑response processes.
• Design and test backup, disaster‑recovery and business‑continuity plans with defined RPO and RTO targets.
• Support secure operation of scheduled jobs, queues, webhooks and critical integrations, documenting procedures and transferring knowledge.

Required profile

• Strong commercial experience in DevOps, SRE or cloud security.
• Significant hands‑on production experience with Google Cloud Platform and Terraform.
• Excellent knowledge of GCP IAM, networking, service accounts and managed database services.
• Proven experience building CI/CD pipelines, Docker‑based container workloads and using GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of monitoring, incident response, backup, disaster recovery and secure software delivery.
• Experience in fintech, banking, payments or other regulated environments is a plus.
