Freelance Marketing & Business Development Manager – Birmingham

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic, commercially‑astute individual to own Medusa Lodge's marketing, promotions and customer acquisition activities in Birmingham. The role focuses on increasing footfall, generating VIP and group bookings, and delivering measurable revenue growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement targeted promotional activity to boost paying customer numbers, especially during quieter periods.
• Identify attractive exhibitions, conferences and major events and create campaigns to attract exhibitors and visitors.
• Establish and maintain productive relationships with hotels, concierges, taxi operators, event organisers, promoters and group‑booking companies.
• Develop opportunities to increase VIP bookings, private parties, group visits and repeat business.
• Oversee and improve the venue's online presence, including website effectiveness, Google visibility, social media and targeted digital campaigns.
• Create initiatives to encourage repeat visits, strengthen relationships with regular customers and build a consent‑based customer database.

Required profile

• Confident, engaging and personable with strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Proactive, entrepreneurial and self‑motivated with a track record of identifying opportunities and delivering results independently.
• Commercially focused with a clear understanding of customer acquisition, revenue generation and ROI.
• Well‑connected and knowledgeable about Birmingham's hospitality, nightlife, entertainment and events scene.
• Creative and resourceful, able to develop effective campaigns within a sensible budget.
• Experienced and credible, comfortable dealing with business owners, venue managers, hotel operators, event organisers and corporate contacts.
• Hands‑on and accountable, willing to take responsibility for both planning and implementation.

What we offer

• Day rate of £250‑£300 (depending on experience) for approximately two days per week.
• Performance‑related bonus structure linked to agreed commercial targets.
