Freelance Project Engineer – Overhead Lines (Scotland)

About the role

You will join a leading international construction and infrastructure business delivering key overhead line (OHL) projects across Scotland. As a Freelance Project Engineer you will coordinate on‑site engineering activities, ensuring safe, on‑time delivery and compliance with quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret technical drawings and specifications for OHL works.
• Support site teams with engineering solutions and resolve design queries.
• Assist in preparing RAMS and construction methodologies.
• Monitor progress, manage technical issues and ensure HSQE compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Liaise with Tier 1 contractors and design teams to keep projects on programme.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Project Engineer on overhead line projects (ideally 132 kV‑400 kV).
• Strong understanding of OHL construction methodologies, including foundations, tower erection and stringing.
• Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) and a valid CSCS card (essential).
• Experience working with Tier 1 contractors or major infrastructure projects.
