Freight Business Development Manager

About the role

Reed is seeking a seasoned Business Development Manager to drive commercial growth in freight forwarding and fulfilment across the South of England. You will focus on high‑value sectors such as Pharma, Life Sciences, Aerospace, Defence and eCommerce, building senior relationships and delivering tailored multimodal solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and secure new business opportunities within targeted industries.
• Develop and maintain senior‑level relationships with SME and mid‑market clients, converting pipelines into profitable contracts.
• Collaborate with operations to design bespoke Air, Ocean and multimodal freight solutions, including fulfilment services.
• Lead responses to tenders and RFPs, ensuring clear ROI and compliance with industry standards.
• Use market intelligence to stay ahead of trends and competitor activity.
• Manage and expand existing client accounts, driving upselling and cross‑selling opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development, sales or account management within freight forwarding, logistics or fulfilment.
• Track record of generating growth with SME and mid‑market customers.
• Strong understanding of international freight, customs regulations and supply‑chain solutions.
• Excellent relationship‑building and negotiation skills for high‑value deals.
• Familiarity with digital tools and platforms used in freight and fulfilment operations.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently across a broad geographic area.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the South of England.
