Functional Skills English Tutor – HMP The Mount

About the role
We are looking for a passionate Functional Skills English Tutor to join the education team at HMP The Mount. You will deliver City & Guilds Functional Skills English qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, helping learners develop the literacy, communication and employability skills needed for rehabilitation and future employment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons for groups of up to 12 learners, covering Entry Level 1 to Level 2.
- Create schemes of work and lesson plans that meet awarding‑body requirements.
- Conduct initial assessments using BKSB diagnostic tools and develop Individual Learning Plans.
- Differentiate teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Track, monitor and record learner progress, preparing them for examinations and assessments.
- Provide support for learners with additional needs, implementing reasonable adjustments.
- Promote literacy, employability and personal development throughout the prison environment.
Required profile
- Enthusiastic about education and rehabilitation.
- Ability to create an inclusive, learner‑focused environment.
- Strong organisational skills for lesson planning and progress monitoring.
- Willingness to work within a secure prison setting.
Required skills
- Experience with BKSB diagnostic tools.
