Functional Skills Tutor (1:1 Support) – Maldon

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to provide one‑to‑one support for children and young people in Maldon who cannot access mainstream education. The role focuses on delivering the Functional Skills curriculum and tailored SEND/SEMH instruction to learners from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver the Functional Skills curriculum or SEND‑specific content in a face‑to‑face 1:1 setting.
• Implement positive behaviour management strategies and maintain a therapeutic learning environment.
• Conduct baseline academic and emotional assessments to shape personalised support.
• Prepare daily and weekly progress reports and liaise with external professionals such as SALT, OT, or social workers.
• Record attendance using the company’s attendance software.
• Assist learners with transitions to mainstream or specialist education settings.

Required profile

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring children with SEND/SEMH needs.
• Background in education, youth work, or therapeutic settings.
• QTS or HLTA preferred, but two years of relevant UK experience without formal qualification is acceptable.
• Experience delivering the Functional Skills curriculum to a high standard.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a compassionate, dependable attitude.
