Functional Skills Tutor – 1:1 Support (Thurrock)

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to provide one‑to‑one support for learners in Thurrock. The role involves delivering the Functional Skills curriculum to students aged KS3‑KS4 who have SEND or SEMH needs, helping them achieve academic progress in a flexible, term‑time setting.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver the Functional Skills curriculum or SEND‑specific content in a face‑to‑face 1:1 setting.
• Implement positive behaviour management strategies and provide a therapeutic, adaptable approach.
• Conduct baseline academic and emotional assessments to tailor support.
• Prepare daily and weekly progress reports and liaise with external professionals such as SALT, OT, or social workers.
• Record attendance using the provider’s attendance software.
• Support learners in transitioning to mainstream or specialist education settings.

Required profile

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring children with SEND/SEMH requirements.
• Background in education, youth work, or therapeutic settings.
• Minimum two years relevant UK experience; QTS or HLTA preferred but not essential.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Compassionate, dependable and proactive attitude.
