Funeral Service Crew – Coroner Service (Bristol)

About the role
The Funeral Service Crew will work within the Coroner Service in Bristol, handling the respectful transfer of deceased individuals to mortuaries or post‑mortem facilities. This part‑time position (22.5 hours per week) involves shift work and occasional weekend duties, supporting both the Coroner’s investigations and day‑to‑day funeral care operations.
Key responsibilities
- Remove and transfer deceased persons safely and respectfully to designated mortuary or post‑mortem sites.
- Support the Coroner’s investigation process by ensuring prompt transfers for examination or identification.
- Provide compassionate service to bereaved families and maintain professional communication with Coroner officers, police, healthcare professionals, funeral directors, and mortuary staff.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of transfers, collections, and admissions.
- Keep equipment, vehicles, and facilities clean and ready for use.
- Prepare coffins, engrave name plates, and assist in the care and preparation of the deceased.
- Ensure compliance with legal, health‑and‑safety, and infection‑control procedures.
Required profile
- Full UK manual driving licence.
- Sensitive approach to customer service with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and compassionate in emotionally charged situations.
- Physical capability to perform manual lifting and other physical aspects of the role.
