FY3 Doctor in Virtual Hospital

About the role

The Virtual Acute Care Unit (VACU) at the Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust is seeking a Foundation Year 3 (FY3) Doctor to join its innovative Virtual Hospital service. You will work on‑site at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, supporting patients remotely from the comfort of their homes while also providing face‑to‑face care when required.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of patients eligible for virtual care, coordinating remote monitoring and assessments.
• Participate in daily operational meetings, handovers and multidisciplinary team discussions.
• Deploy and educate patients on remote monitoring equipment, ensuring accurate observation reporting.
• Utilise remote prescribing, electronic patient records and telephony systems to deliver safe, high‑quality care.
• Support the development and expansion of VACU services across care pathways.
• Contribute to clinical governance, patient safety initiatives and quality audits.

Required profile

• Qualified FY3 doctor registered with the GMC.
• Willingness to work across all seven days, primarily on‑site at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
• Strong interest in virtual care models and remote patient management.
• Excellent communication skills for patient education and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Required skills

• Experience with remote monitoring equipment.
• Proficiency in telephony and virtual consultation platforms.
• Ability to use electronic patient record systems and remote prescribing tools.
