Gardener – Care Home

About the role

As a Gardener at a Barchester care home you will create and maintain attractive outdoor spaces that support the wellbeing of residents. Your work will ensure the grounds are safe, tidy and welcoming, providing a pleasant environment for fresh air and relaxation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, flower beds, shrubs, trees and seasonal plantings.
• Inspect and repair garden equipment, fences and structures.
• Clear snow and ice during winter to keep pathways safe.
• Apply garden treatment chemicals in accordance with health‑and‑safety standards.
• Participate in the annual “Barchester in Bloom” competition.

Required profile

• Passionate about outdoor work and able to adapt tasks around resident needs.
• Patient, empathetic and trustworthy with a team‑oriented attitude.
• Understanding of health and safety practices, especially COSHH regulations.

Required skills

• Use of garden treatment chemicals.
• Knowledge of COSHH compliance.
