Gear Cutter / Thread and Worm Grinder

About the role

Davall Gears Ltd is looking for an experienced Gear Cutter / Thread and Worm Grinder to join its precision engineering team in Welham Green. The role involves operating specialised CNC and manual grinding machines to produce high‑precision gears, worms and threaded components for demanding sectors such as aerospace and automotive.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate Gleason P60 and Gleason P90 gear cutting machines.
• Set up and operate Doimak Thread and Worm Grinders.
• Operate Matrix Thread Grinders for precision threaded parts.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Produce components to tight tolerances and required surface finishes.
• Select, dress and change grinding wheels as needed.
• Perform in‑process inspections using micrometres, verniers, bore gauges and thread measuring tools.
• Maintain machine cleanliness, perform routine maintenance and record production data.
• Identify and resolve machining issues to maximise productivity and quality.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Gear Cutter and/or Thread and Worm Grinder.
• Proven ability to operate Gleason P60/P90, Doimak and Matrix grinding machines.
• Strong competence in reading engineering drawings and working to tight tolerances.
• Experience in precision measurement and inspection, preferably with gear CMM equipment.
• Desirable: apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification; experience in aerospace, automotive or defence sectors; knowledge of lean manufacturing.
