General Assistant

About the role

The General Assistant will join the Derwent Hill Venue Team, delivering high‑quality customer service and supporting the day‑to‑day operation of the venue. Working across evenings, weekends and occasional kitchen shifts, the role contributes to a welcoming environment for visitors and staff alike.

Key responsibilities

• Clean all areas of the venue to maintain a tidy and safe environment.
• Serve food and drink to customers in the dining area, bar and shop.
• Prepare dining spaces for meals, including setting tables and arranging furniture.
• Carry out washing up, laundry and basic kitchen duties, assisting chefs as required.
• Move furniture and set up rooms for events or meetings.
• Support the Centre Director with any reasonable duties and help develop personal skills during appropriate periods.

Required profile

• Previous experience in housekeeping, kitchen or bar environments with a strong focus on customer service.
• Ability to learn and follow Health & Safety and Food Hygiene regulations and council policies.
• Capacity to work quickly and accurately, both independently and as part of a busy team.
• Attention to detail, practical problem‑solving and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Good communication skills for sharing information and responding to guest needs.
