General Foreman – Water Treatment

About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Foreman to lead construction activities at a major sewage treatment works near Cheltenham. Working on a live operational site, you will coordinate site teams, subcontractors and suppliers to deliver works safely, on schedule and to high quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise day‑to‑day construction activities, direct labour, plant and subcontractors.
• Drive health, safety and environmental culture across the site.
• Manage daily operations, permits, work fronts and ensure programme compliance.
• Conduct site briefings, toolbox talks and coordinate the workforce.
• Monitor progress, identify and resolve issues proactively.
• Support the Site Agent and Project Manager with planning and resource allocation.
• Maintain quality standards, complete documentation and act as liaison between engineering, design and delivery teams.
• Foster positive relationships with stakeholders in the operational treatment works environment.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a General Foreman, Works Manager or Senior Supervisor on civil engineering or water infrastructure projects.
• Background in wastewater, sewage treatment, utilities or heavy civil works.
• Experience managing subcontractors and direct labour teams.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and site management practices.
• Ability to read construction drawings, programmes and technical documents.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

• SMSTS or SSSTS certification
• CSCS Card
• First Aid at Work qualification (desirable)
