General Garden Centre Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, commercially‑driven leader to take charge of a well‑established independent garden centre in North London. As General Garden Centre Manager you will be responsible for overall performance, shaping strategy and ensuring an exceptional customer experience while developing a high‑performing team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary management team across all garden centre functions.
• Drive commercial performance, profitability and operational efficiency.
• Maintain high standards of customer service and resolve complex issues.
• Oversee budgeting, financial planning, cash‑flow management and regular business reporting.
• Build and nurture relationships with suppliers, growers and external partners.
• Manage recruitment, training, performance management and staff development.
• Ensure compliance with health‑and‑safety and retail legislation.
• Coordinate marketing initiatives, promotions and community engagement.
• Monitor stock levels, profit margins and overall business performance.
• Perform Duty Manager duties, including weekend coverage, and contribute to strategic projects and capital investments.

Required profile

• Proven senior management experience within a garden centre or horticultural retail environment.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing managers and teams.
• Commercial acumen and solid financial understanding.
• Passion for community involvement and customer service excellence.
• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands‑on operational management.
