General Manager – Complex Abdomino Pelvic Services

About the role

The Surgery Division is seeking a senior leader to act as General Manager for Complex Abdomino‑Pelvic Specialties across the Royal London and Mile End Hospitals. You will be responsible for day‑to‑day operational delivery, ensuring high‑quality, patient‑focused services while driving a strategic service‑improvement agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operational and performance management of adult ENT, audiology and Complex Abdomino‑Pelvic Unit services (vascular, general surgery, HPB, colorectal, gynae‑oncology, urology).
• Ensure delivery against RTT, DM01 and cancer targets and meet NHS constitutional standards by March 2027.
• Lead strategic planning to clear waiting lists sustainably and manage insourcing initiatives.
• Drive improvement plans, internal reviews, GIRFT and peer‑review recommendations, including process redesign.
• Collaborate with Barts Health sister sites and NEL system partners on waiting‑list management and care‑pathway redesign.
• Maintain accurate reporting for tier‑1 meetings and monitor capacity and demand.
• Provide budgetary and people‑management oversight for the specialties.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a large NHS or comparable healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of NHS constitutional standards, cancer pathways and elective recovery programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets and multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent strategic planning and change‑management skills.
• Experience working with multiple hospital sites and external partners.
