General Manager

About the role

Greencore is seeking a General Manager to lead its Consett manufacturing site, producing chilled ready meals for major UK retailers. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, achieving performance targets, and fostering a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams across HR, Finance, Commercial and Technical functions.
• Deliver on key performance indicators, P&L targets and cost‑control initiatives.
• Oversee safety programmes, ensuring compliance with IOSH/NEBOSH standards and site‑specific training.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene, GMP and legislative compliance, including modern slavery and environmental standards.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with retailers, suppliers, trade unions and the local community.
• Drive business improvement projects, CAPEX investments and adoption of modern manufacturing technologies.

Required profile

• Proven operational leadership experience in FMCG or fast‑paced manufacturing.
• Track record of managing large, multi‑disciplinary teams within a matrix organisation.
• Strong commercial acumen with experience of P&L, budgeting and cost control.
• Experience of safety programme leadership and relevant certifications (IOSH/NEBOSH or equivalent).
• Knowledge of food safety, GMP, legislative compliance and supply‑chain operations.
