General Manager – North Hub Operations

About the role

Whistl is seeking an experienced, commercially‑focused General Manager to lead its North Hub operation in Bolton. This senior leadership position carries full accountability for operational performance, safety, financial results and customer service in a fast‑paced 24/7 environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the end‑to‑end sortation process from receipt through to handover.
• Drive operational efficiency through lean methodologies and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Analyse operational data, forecasts and performance trends to optimise resources and productivity.
• Collaborate across functions to enhance service quality, efficiency and overall business performance.
• Coach, develop and manage a large operational workforce and management team, fostering an inclusive and engaged culture.
• Own operational budgets, forecasts and cost controls, delivering financial targets through effective labour planning.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, ensuring service quality targets are met.
• Champion health, safety, environmental and mail‑integrity compliance, supporting audits and security initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven senior operational leadership experience within logistics, transport or a related sector.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen and ability to manage large budgets and cost structures.
• Strong track record of driving continuous improvement and lean process implementation.
• Excellent people leadership skills, with experience managing sizable teams in a 24/7 environment.
• Ability to build and sustain relationships with customers, suppliers and internal partners.
