General Practice Director

About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Practice Director to lead a substantial client portfolio and drive growth for a respected independent accountancy and business advisory firm in Manchester. Reporting directly to the Partners, you will shape client relationships, identify commercial opportunities, and ensure the delivery of high‑quality accounting, tax and advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a diverse portfolio of SME and owner‑managed business clients across multiple sectors.
• Provide strategic business, accounting and tax advice to entrepreneurs and owners.
• Manage, mentor and develop senior managers and departmental teams.
• Drive business development activities and generate new revenue streams.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Identify cross‑selling and advisory opportunities.
• Ensure technical compliance and high standards of client service delivery.
• Contribute to firm‑wide strategic planning, operational performance and growth initiatives.
• Support succession planning and leadership development across the practice.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
• Significant experience within a UK accountancy practice.
• Proven success managing a portfolio of SME and owner‑managed business clients.
• Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities.
• Demonstrable business‑development and networking experience.
• Excellent commercial awareness and relationship‑building skills.
• Track record of delivering technical excellence and outstanding client service.
• Ability to inspire, influence and drive performance across teams.
