General Teaching Assistant – KS1/SEN (Full‑time)

About the role

Veritas Education is recruiting a General Teaching Assistant to join Heysham Primary School on a full‑time basis from September. The role focuses on supporting Key Stage 1 pupils, with a particular emphasis on children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access the curriculum and develop socially and emotionally.

Key responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers in delivering lessons and managing classroom activities.
• Provide small‑group and one‑to‑one interventions for SEN pupils.
• Support pupils in accessing learning resources and completing tasks.
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement and inclusive participation.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and parents to monitor progress.
• Contribute to a nurturing, safe and supportive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant in a primary setting.
• Demonstrated experience supporting children with SEN.
• Experience working with Key Stage 1 pupils is highly desirable.
• Patient, adaptable and caring approach.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEN strategies and interventions.
• Ability to deliver differentiated support in a classroom.
