Geotechnical Design Engineer

About the role

Robert Bird Group is looking for a Design Engineer – Geotechnical to join its London office. The role will involve delivering geotechnical solutions for complex building, infrastructure and temporary works projects across the UK and internationally, working alongside structural, civil and construction engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse retaining walls, deep and shallow foundations, earth‑retention systems and ground‑improvement solutions.
• Prepare engineering calculations, reports and technical specifications.
• Perform design checks, technical reviews and ground‑movement assessments.
• Assist with the procurement, interpretation and management of ground investigations.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Support project planning, cost monitoring and commercial activities such as fee proposals.
• Mentor graduate engineers and junior team members.

Required profile

• Qualified civil or geotechnical engineering degree.
• Motivated professional progressing towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Ability to work on complex projects and collaborate with diverse engineering disciplines.
