Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

A respected multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join its growing Cambridge team. You will work on a wide range of ground investigation and geotechnical projects across residential, commercial, infrastructure and development sectors, supporting activities from fieldwork through to technical analysis, reporting and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake and supervise ground investigations on development and infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate site activities and ensure investigations meet technical standards.
• Log soil and rock samples in line with industry guidance.
• Prepare factual and interpretative geotechnical reports.
• Assist with foundation assessments, slope stability evaluations and geotechnical risk assessments.
• Support Phase I and Phase II site investigations where required.
• Manage subcontractors, drilling contractors and site operations.
• Monitor project progress to meet timescales and budgets.
• Maintain accurate technical records and documentation.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and other stakeholders while ensuring health, safety, environmental and quality compliance.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a geotechnical, engineering geology or geo‑environmental consultancy.
• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Good understanding of ground investigation techniques and geotechnical assessment methodologies.
• Knowledge of current geotechnical standards, regulations and best practice.
• Strong report writing and technical communication abilities.
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site locations.
