Ground Segment Systems Team Lead

About the role

As the Ground Segment Systems Team Lead you will own the architecture and technical baseline of the entire ground segment, guiding the team from concept through to operational maintenance. You will act as the primary interface between the Mission & Systems team, Operations, and Ground Segment Software groups, ensuring seamless integration and reliable mission support.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain the ground segment system architecture, requirements, and technical baseline across all subsystems.
• Lead requirements capture, derivation, allocation, traceability and compliance management.
• Plan and execute integration, verification and validation activities, including subsystem, system, simulation and end‑to‑end testing.
• Ensure interface coherence, data‑flow consistency, configuration control and release management.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, governance and acceptance of subsystem deliveries.
• Support development of mission control, mission planning and ground‑station interface software.
• Act as the technical liaison to suppliers and internal stakeholders across engineering and operations.
• Assist mission operations with troubleshooting, maintenance, training and issue resolution.
• Produce and maintain engineering documentation, contribute to bids, risk management and technical reporting.
• Line‑manage a team of 4‑6 engineers, handling task prioritisation, performance appraisals and career development.

Required profile

• Proven experience in ground segment development and system engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage complex projects.
• Strong communication skills to coordinate between mission, operations and software groups.
• Experience in line management, including conducting appraisals and supporting recruitment.
• Ability to identify skill gaps and develop resource plans with management.
