Ground Surveyor – Test Dig

About the role

We are looking for a Ground Surveyor to carry out test digs ahead of conservatory or extension builds across our sites in Yorkshire and Humberside. The role supports our growth by confirming ground conditions, identifying potential issues and ensuring sites are ready for construction.

Key responsibilities

• Dig pilot holes to assess ground conditions and report findings with photos and detailed notes.
• Check soil composition, suitability and advise if piling is required.
• Mark out sites, lay flags/chippings, screed and patch floors as needed.
• Identify existing drainage runs and report their condition.
• Locate and assess any on‑site obstacles such as trees that could affect foundations.
• Leave the work area tidy, restoring it to its original state for the customer.
• Arrange appointments with customers and schedule test digs with the Building Manager.
• Assist with corrective historic builds under the direction of the Building Manager.

Required profile

• Previous experience in the construction industry, preferably as a General Builder or Ground Worker.
• Strong knowledge of ground works and foundations.
• Meticulous, organised and detail‑oriented.
• Ability to produce clear, accurate reports.
