Grounds Maintenance Operative

About the role

We are seeking a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join a well‑established organisation in Cambridge. You will work hands‑on to keep a variety of outdoor spaces safe, attractive and well‑maintained throughout the year, supporting sustainability and biodiversity initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine grounds maintenance across designated sites to a high standard.
• Assist in planning and delivering daily garden and grounds work.
• Prepare for seasonal changes, including ordering plants and managing material and chemical records.
• Maintain safe use, storage and upkeep of tools, equipment, vehicles and workspaces.
• Follow Health & Safety procedures, contribute to risk assessments and report hazards or incidents.

Required profile

• Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping or horticulture.
• Good knowledge of grounds‑maintenance equipment and environmental practices.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Full UK driving licence with towing capability.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Required skills

• Operation of grounds‑maintenance equipment and tools.
• Use of handheld and ride‑on machinery.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with computer‑aided facilities management systems.
