Grounds Maintenance Supervisor – Full Time

About the role

The Ash Parish Council is seeking a full‑time Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to lead the care of its cemeteries, allotments, community open spaces and other council‑owned grounds. You will be responsible for day‑to‑day maintenance, health and safety compliance, and the effective management of the Grounds Team.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate maintenance and upkeep across all council‑owned facilities.
• Produce and review risk assessments for all grounds‑related activities.
• Advise the Clerk on grounds‑maintenance issues and identify when specialist works are required.
• Draft specifications, obtain competitive quotes and assess contractor estimates in line with council financial regulations.
• Report incidents of vandalism or damage and ensure timely repairs.
• Maintain signage, fences, railings, gates, storm drains, culverts, ditches and water channels.
• Oversee cemetery upkeep, including litter clearance, memorial inspections, grave marking, and coordination of funeral‑related works.
• Liaise with external contractors for safe execution of specialist tasks.

Required profile

• Proven experience in grounds or facilities maintenance, preferably within a public sector environment.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and risk‑assessment processes.
• Ability to manage a small team and allocate work effectively.
• Good communication skills for interaction with council officers, contractors and the public.
• Experience preparing specifications, obtaining quotes and managing budgets.
