Groundworker

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Groundworker to join our Northwest UK site team. The successful candidate will support a range of civil engineering projects, from site preparation through to drainage and hard landscaping works.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare sites, clear vegetation and perform excavation and trenching.
• Install foul and surface water drainage, utility ducting and assist with foundations and sub‑structure works.
• Carry out road and sewer construction tasks, including kerbing, paving and external works.
• Perform basic concrete and hard‑landscaping duties as required.
• Operate tools and plant safely, follow site drawings and maintain a clean work area.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers and other trades to meet specifications and deadlines.

Required profile

• Valid CSCS (or equivalent) card.
• Proven experience in groundworks, excavation, drainage installation and trenching.
• Practical knowledge of landscaping, kerbing, paving and basic hard‑landscaping.
• Understanding of safe working around trees, vegetation and site clearance.
• Previous experience on civil engineering or infrastructure projects, preferably roads or sewers.
• Strong health and safety awareness and ability to read site drawings.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work in varying weather and ground conditions.
• Valid UK driving licence.
