Groundworks Site Manager – Essex & South East

About the role

Elson Group is seeking an experienced Groundworks Site Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operations of groundworks and civil engineering projects across Essex and the South East. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of sites, from mobilisation through to handover, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, and to the required specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all groundworks and civil engineering packages, including bulk earthworks, foundations, drainage, concrete works and external works.
• Supervise site teams, plant, and subcontractors on a daily basis.
• Maintain compliance with health & safety standards and site‑specific RAMS.
• Liaise with clients, main contractors and the commercial team on progress, variations and issues.
• Control site records, RFIs and dayworks, and coordinate deliveries, plant hire and material requirements.
• Report progress and challenges to Operations/Contracts management.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Site Manager in groundworks or civil engineering.
• SMSTS and CSCS (Manager level) certifications (essential).
• First Aid at Work (desirable).
• Strong knowledge of drainage, foundations, concrete works and external works.
• Full UK driving licence.
