Group Financial Controller

About the role

This senior finance position reports directly to the CFO of a fast‑growing, private‑equity‑backed fintech. The Group Financial Controller will be a key member of the finance leadership team, shaping financial control, reporting quality and automation as the business scales.

Key responsibilities

• Own and enhance the financial control environment, ensuring robust governance, compliance and accountability.
• Lead external audits and manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers and other external stakeholders.
• Maintain balance‑sheet integrity, cash management and working‑capital discipline.
• Take full ownership of month‑end close, delivering timely, accurate management accounts with insightful variance analysis.
• Drive reporting efficiency, scalability and data quality through automation and systems development.
• Prepare Leadership Team and Board reporting packs, providing clear insight into financial and operational performance.
• Support strategic decisions with scenario modelling, sensitivity analysis and investment appraisal.
• Partner with senior business stakeholders, challenge assumptions and drive performance accountability.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and long‑range planning activities.
• Mentor and develop a high‑performing finance team.
• Review and enhance finance systems, controls and reporting processes to support growth.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Group Financial Controller or senior finance leader.
• Strong background in financial control, statutory reporting and governance.
• Track record of improving financial processes, controls and reporting in a growing environment.
• Experience driving automation, systems enhancements and finance transformation.
• Commercial acumen with ability to influence stakeholders and translate finance into actionable insight.
• Experience supporting Board reporting, budgeting, forecasting and business planning.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor finance teams.
• Exposure to investor reporting, due diligence, private‑equity‑backed businesses or exit preparation is a plus.
• Fintech or payments sector experience is advantageous.

Required skills
