Head Chef – Film Catering (Newton Abbot)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead the kitchen on a busy film‑catering production based near Newton Abbot. The role involves preparing high‑quality meals for a fast‑moving set, handling up to 100 covers per day and adapting to changing filming schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a small kitchen team of three staff members.
• Plan, prepare and serve daily menus, including full cooked breakfasts and three rotating lunch options (meat, fish, vegan).
• Produce a different lunch menu each day while catering for all dietary requirements and allergens.
• Manage food ordering, stock control and maintain strict hygiene standards.
• Maintain cleaning schedules and ensure a tidy, safe kitchen environment.
• Work in an open‑kitchen setting, communicating clearly with crew and providing excellent customer service.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Head Chef, preferably in a catering or high‑volume environment.
• Ability to lead, motivate and organise a small team.
• Strong menu‑planning skills and knowledge of food allergens.
• Good spoken English and a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.
• Residence within 20 miles of Newton Abbot.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 preferred, Level 1 acceptable).

What we offer

• £16 per hour, self‑employed contract from 31 July to 22 October.
• Potential for further work after the initial contract, including up to 10 days in Jersey.
• Full‑time hours, Monday‑Friday, typically 5:00 am – 4:00 pm with flexibility for schedule changes.
