Head Chef – Live-In Position

About the role

The Wordsworth Inn in Grasmere is preparing to open and seeks an experienced Head Chef to build the kitchen from day one. This live‑in role combines culinary leadership with the chance to shape menus, standards, and a passionate team in a high‑profile, food‑led inn.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute seasonal menus for 196 internal and 148 external covers.
• Lead, train and motivate a kitchen team to deliver consistent, high‑quality dishes.
• Oversee daily kitchen operations, including prep, service, and health & safety compliance.
• Manage supplier relationships, ordering, and inventory control.
• Monitor food costs, budgeting, and financial targets.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and health‑safety standards.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Head Chef or similar senior kitchen role.
• Strong leadership with a focus on hospitality and guest satisfaction.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced opening environment.
• Commitment to high standards of food quality, freshness, and presentation.
