Head Coach – Fitness & Performance Leader

About the role

This is a senior‑level Head Coach position within a high‑performing fitness organisation. The role is designed for former British Army Physical Training Instructors who want to translate military leadership and instructional expertise into a civilian gym environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver group training sessions, setting the benchmark for coaching standards.
• Inspire, motivate and develop members to achieve outstanding fitness results.
• Mentor, manage and evaluate the coaching team, ensuring consistently high standards.
• Conduct one‑to‑one performance reviews and provide ongoing staff development.
• Foster a disciplined, positive and high‑performing team culture.
• Manage coach rotas, staffing levels and holiday planning.
• Oversee day‑to‑day gym operations, attendance, member retention and customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with the sales team to support membership growth.
• Maintain a clean, safe facility and coordinate equipment inspections and maintenance.
• Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.

Required profile

• Level 3 Personal Training qualification (minimum essential).
• Former British Army Physical Training Instructor experience, preferably at Corporal or Sergeant rank.
• Proven leadership, mentoring and team‑development experience.
• Ability to work autonomously, challenge standards and drive continuous improvement.
