Head of A Level Maths

About the role

This permanent leadership role will steer the A Level Mathematics department at a specialist academy in Leeds. You will shape curriculum strategy, align mathematical content with advanced manufacturing, robotics, software architecture and structural design, and ensure graduates possess strong analytical and employability skills.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver a rigorous, sequenced A Level Maths curriculum that integrates industry‑relevant applications.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to embed core employability skills across the programme.
• Lead, motivate and develop a team of specialist mathematics teachers.
• Maintain a mature, business‑like learning environment and manage classroom behaviour.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring high academic standards.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS or equivalent UK teaching qualification.
• Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain).
• Proven leadership experience such as Second in Department, Key Stage Coordinator or Head of Department.
• Legal entitlement to work full‑time in the UK.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of pure mathematics, mechanics and statistics up to Further Mathematics level.
• Ability to communicate complex mathematical concepts clearly and inspiringly.
• Strategic vision for long‑term departmental development.
• Strong people‑management and behaviour‑management capabilities.
