Head of Building Standards & Performance / Construction Products

About the role

The Buildings, Fire and Resilience Group is recruiting two Deputy Directors to lead major reform programmes that set standards for building performance and construction products. These senior roles will shape policy, drive regulatory change and support the UK’s net‑zero and housing growth objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of building standards, regulations and the Future Homes Standard.
• Oversee rapid policy sprints and support the Independent Review of building safety legislation.
• Coordinate with the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero on carbon budgets and energy‑performance software.
• Work closely with the Building Safety Regulator to ensure proportionate, up‑to‑date regulations.
• Drive the next phase of construction products reform, including design of primary legislation for a third‑session Bill.
• Develop and progress regulations introducing a general safety requirement for construction products.

Required profile

• Proven strategic leadership experience in a senior policy or regulatory environment.
• Strong track record of policy development and delivery of large‑scale reform programmes.
• Extensive stakeholder engagement experience with ministers, regulators and industry leaders.
• Deep understanding of building safety, construction products and low‑carbon built environment issues.
