Head of Commodities, Diversified Energy & Infrastructure, Trade & Working Capital

About the role

Barclays is looking for an experienced Trade & Working Capital originator and player-manager to lead its origination activity for commodity clients, with added responsibility for clients in the Diversified Energy and Infrastructure sectors. The role sits in Relationship Management and is a player-manager position: you will lead and develop a team of four originators while personally originating and leading material transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Drive origination, product penetration and income growth for a portfolio of commodity, diversified energy and infrastructure clients.
• Lead and mentor a team of four originators, and personally originate and lead important client discussions and complex transactions.
• Build relationships with Trade Teams, Treasurers, CFOs and senior finance and procurement professionals.
• Originate, structure and execute bilateral and syndicated trade and working capital transactions, including trade loans, commodity prepayments, borrowing base, ECA-backed structures, non-recourse receivables and inventory financing, supply chain finance, letters of credit and guarantees.
• Develop financing structures suited to commodity businesses, balancing client needs with the bank's risk appetite and return requirements.
• Work with Corporate Coverage, Credit, Risk, Product, Structuring, Syndications, Legal and Operations, and with colleagues in other jurisdictions on cross-border transactions.
• Shape the strategic agenda for the business and represent it at senior forums, client events and industry conferences.

Required profile

• Significant experience in Trade, Commodity Finance and/or Working Capital origination with corporate clients.
• Proven track record of originating and executing trade and working capital financing for commodity-related businesses.
• Experience with large, diversified commodity traders, producers/processors and commodity-intensive corporates.
• Knowledge of the Diversified Energy and Infrastructure sectors.
• Demonstrated leadership of experienced originators while staying personally active with clients and deals.

Required skills

• Strong credit and structuring skills, including structured trade finance and ECA, borrowing-base, receivables, prepayments and inventory financing.
• Deep knowledge of letters of credit, guarantees, bills/prom notes and trade loans.
• Ability to negotiate, manage complex internal credit and approval processes and build stakeholder buy-in.
