Head of Data Platform Engineering

About the role

This senior position leads the design, build and ongoing maintenance of Hastings Insurance Services' Snowflake and Azure enterprise data platform. Reporting to the CIO, you will shape strategy, drive governance and ensure the platform supports the company’s growth objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end delivery of data platform projects and day‑to‑day operations.
• Manage production ETL/ELT pipelines, orchestration frameworks and data quality processes.
• Implement security, compliance, access controls and metadata management.
• Drive platform scalability, cost optimisation and FinOps alignment.
• Establish a Data Platform Engineering Centre of Excellence to support all data teams.
• Define and enforce coding standards and best‑practice guidelines.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading a data engineering function in a fast‑moving environment.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data strategy and ability to translate it into actionable work.
• Excellent communication skills with senior stakeholders.
• Track record of delivering high‑quality outcomes while managing budget and resources.
