Head of Department – Computer Science

About the role

The school is seeking an experienced Computer Science teacher to lead its department across Key Stages 4 and 5. As Head of Department you will shape the curriculum, drive teaching excellence and influence overall school improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Computer Science department.
• Design and develop the curriculum, assessment practices and teaching resources.
• Monitor pupil progress, implement targeted interventions and raise attainment.
• Coach, appraise and support staff through professional development and CPD.
• Manage departmental budgets, resources and exam entries.
• Contribute to school self‑evaluation, strategic planning and quality assurance.
• Promote a safe, inclusive and high‑expectation learning environment.

Required profile

• Qualified Computer Science teacher with strong subject knowledge.
• Proven experience of middle leadership or clear readiness to step into a senior role.
• Track record of improving standards and student outcomes.
• Excellent communication, organisational and data‑analysis abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality and student wellbeing.

Required skills

• ICT proficiency.
