Head of Department – Entrepreneurship & Strategy

About the role

We are seeking a senior academic leader to head the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy at Lancaster University from 1 August 2026. The role is a four‑year secondment, offering the opportunity to shape the department’s teaching, research and engagement agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic academic leadership and represent the department within the Faculty and the wider university.
• Manage and develop departmental staff, fostering excellence in teaching, research and external engagement.
• Oversee the department’s budget, resources and operational activities.
• Drive the development and implementation of the department’s strategic plan.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships with industry and community stakeholders.

Required profile

• Current academic staff member of the Department of Entrepreneurship & Strategy.
• Typically at professorial level; senior lecturers or senior teaching fellows may be considered on an exceptional basis.
• Employment contract extending at least four years beyond the appointment date.
• Demonstrated experience in academic leadership and departmental management.

• Non‑superannuable salary supplement equivalent to one (or two) salary increments.
• Annual Head of Department allowance.
• Potential consolidation of the allowance into permanent salary based on performance.
• Eligibility for sabbatical/AREL leave after the term of office.
