Head of Department - Structural Technology

About the role
The Department of Structural Technology is seeking a dynamic leader to head the curriculum team and drive excellence across teaching, learning and assessment. This senior position reports to senior college management and plays a pivotal role in shaping the department’s strategic direction.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the curriculum team, including programme managers.
- Foster a culture of high expectations for staff and students, promoting continuous improvement.
- Delegate leadership responsibilities and implement individualized learning schemes.
- Participate in staff recruitment, induction, performance reviews and disciplinary processes.
- Manage resources, monitor expenditure and maintain effective inter‑departmental communication.
- Implement the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Framework consistently across the department.
- Identify at‑risk students and deliver targeted support strategies.
- Review provision through the College’s Quality Cycle and execute action plans.
- Disseminate best practice, contribute to cross‑training events and develop stakeholder collaborations.
Required profile
- Degree level education or equivalent.
- Recognised teaching qualification.
- Recent experience running one or more courses with strong student retention and achievement.
- Understanding of diverse learning environments and ability to set and monitor targets.
- Experience in quality improvement, disciplinary procedures and staff mentoring.
- Proven ability to manage physical and financial resources.
