Head of Estates and Facilities

About the role

The Council is seeking a senior property professional to lead its Estates and Facilities function. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Place, you will be the corporate property officer responsible for a diverse portfolio of roughly 500 assets valued at £110 million.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the Council’s Asset Management Strategy, driving estate optimisation and income growth.
• Oversee commercial portfolio management including lettings, rent reviews, lease renewals and disposals.
• Manage facilities operations for the Council’s headquarters and operational sites, ensuring efficient repairs and maintenance delivery.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of about 27 estates, property, facilities and maintenance professionals.
• Conduct asset valuations, acquisitions and disposals, and support capital programme and investment planning.
• Ensure compliance, governance and risk management for all property‑related activities.
• Identify and pursue opportunities to increase revenue from the Council’s property holdings.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior estate or facilities management within a public or commercial context.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to manage large, mixed‑use property portfolios.
• Leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent strategic thinking and communication skills for advising senior officers and elected members.
