Head of Governance, Compliance and Risk

About the role

Christian Aid is seeking a senior leader to oversee governance, compliance and risk across the charity and its subsidiaries. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Corporate Governance, the Head will act as the Board’s trusted advisor, ensuring robust decision‑making and protecting the organisation’s reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Support trustee succession planning, Board meetings and the Governance and Nominations Committee.
• Provide expert advice on legal structures for subsidiaries, including Christian Aid Ireland.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management framework with registers and appetite statements.
• Build a compliance culture covering data protection, money laundering, counter‑terrorism, sanctions, fraud prevention and misuse of funds.
• Ensure timely regulatory filings with the Charity Commission, OSCR, Companies House and ICO.
• Design and deliver an internal audit programme reviewed by the Audit and Risk Committee.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in corporate governance, compliance and risk management, preferably within the charitable sector.
• Proven ability to advise senior boards and senior leadership on complex regulatory matters.
• Strong analytical and communication skills with a track record of influencing organisational change.
