Head of Health, Safety and Compliance

About the role

The Head of Health, Safety and Compliance will lead the safety strategy for a large housing association, ensuring that staff and residents are protected and that the organisation meets all legal requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop the health and safety team through performance management and clear vision.
• Ensure full compliance with health, safety and related legislation across the business.
• Manage the fleet of vehicles and telematics systems for operatives.
• Oversee facilities management for key office buildings.
• Promote a proactive safety culture using behavioural techniques, two‑way communication, toolbox talks and safety inspections.
• Develop, review and implement the Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
• Collaborate with other managers to control and monitor contractor health‑and‑safety compliance.
• Implement systems to record, monitor and report health‑and‑safety performance and drive corrective actions.
• Design and deliver training programmes for board members, directors, managers and employees.
• Liaise with HSE, local authorities, fire and rescue services and police on safety matters.
• Provide regular safety reports and strategic advice to senior leadership and the board.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior health, safety and compliance role.
• Chartered membership of a recognised health and safety institute (e.g., CMIOSH).
• Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills across all organisational levels.
