Head of HR

About the role

The Head of HR will lead the people function for a market‑leading, high‑growth furniture retailer with over 50 stores across the UK. Reporting to the Commercial Director and working closely with the senior leadership team, you will shape and deliver a people strategy that drives commercial success while upholding the company’s values.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a people strategy aligned with business objectives.
• Lead and mentor the HR team to provide a professional, consistent service.
• Manage HR‑related costs and ensure the function operates within agreed budgets.
• Oversee HR operations including legal and policy compliance, administration, systems, and reporting.
• Advise senior leaders on complex employee relations matters such as disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance, and restructuring.
• Champion company values and foster a high‑performing, engaged workforce.
• Support a motivated, high‑performing workforce across multiple sites.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior HR role, preferably within a multi‑site retail or customer‑facing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop an HR team.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law, ACAS guidance and best practice in employee relations.
• Experience advising senior leaders on complex people matters.
